Training Services
Basic Obedience Basic obedience is a necessity if you want to obtain the well-behaved companion. This session will be a month to a month and a half long, at one to two visits per week depending on how quickly your dog learns and how efficient you are with enforcing what has been taught. Visits will be an hour and a half long, with a sit-down at the beginning of every session to discuss progress and concerns, and one at the end of each session to write down what we covered in that days session and directions on how to successfully practice it while I'm out. You should have a composition book prior to starting the program. Included in this training package are:
- Sit- Get your dog to sit on command. Especially important when walking near busy intersections, when welcoming visitors into your home, and when opening doors (your dog will sit and wait patiently for you to give the OK to proceed, rather than bowling you over on the way out).
- Lay - Your dog will learn to lie down and stay put, good for preventing excited jumping. Useful in situations such as waiting in crowded veterinary offices or at your local dog-friendly cafe.
- Heel - One of the most important commands to teach your dog. When signaled, your dog will come to either side of you, and stay there, whether in motion or stationary.
- Recall - The most important command your dog will learn. With a solid recall, your dog will return to you, no matter where s/he is or what they are doing.
- Stay - Your dog will stay wherever you place them until you give them the OK to move.
- Door Manners - Teaches your dog not to jump on guests, rush through open doors, and to sit quietly or calmly greet visitors.
- Leash Manners - Get your dog to walk calmly on a loose lead without pulling or tangling you up. The dog should stay on one side at almost all times.
Puppy Starting The key to successfully raising a well-behaved dog is a solid upbringing. Puppies need a lot of socialization and training in order to avoid developing troubling or dangerous behaviors.
In this package, your puppy will receive all of the training as noted in basic obedience, as well as potty training and socialization with new places, people, and dogs. This session will be a month and a half long, at one to two visits per week depending on how quickly your dog learns and how efficient you are with enforcing what has been taught. Visits will be an hour and a half long, with a sit-down at the beginning of every session to discuss progress and concerns, and one at the end of each session to write down what we covered in that days session and directions on how to successfully practice it while I'm out. You should have a composition book prior to starting the program. In order for me to work with your puppy, please make sure they are up to date with their shots, including their Bordatella, Rabies, and Corona vaccines.
Dog Aggression Dog aggression will be worked with on a case by case basis, depending on severity. The outcome of these sessions should be that you can walk your dog, on lead, without fear of being dragged away and into a fight. These situations can be extremely dangerous to both the dogs and the people who are near the fight. I work with your dog to get them to ignore the presence of other dogs, enabling you to enjoy a walk worry free with your dog on a loose lead. By no means should you ever leave your dog unsupervised with another dog, or let them off lead when in public. I do not work with multiple dog households that have dog-on-dog aggression; the situation is too volatile and a little too much for me to handle at this point in my career.
Misc. Training I offer help with miscellaneous concerns as well, such as separation anxiety, mouthiness, escape artists, trash digging, and anything else you'd like changed or worked on. Just write your concerns and what it is you need done in an e-mail to me with the subject "Miscellaneous Training".
